About Our Soccer Program.

The Deer Park Soccer League is a community based recreational youth soccer program, run by a 100% volunteer board and coaching staff. DPSL is open to all players who reside in Sycamore Township, Silverton, and Deer Park.  We do not hold try outs or cut players and all who want play are welcome. DPSL is a member of the Soccer Association of Youth (SAY Soccer) and the Cincinnati Hills SAY Soccer League.

Our primary goals are:

  • To teach the fundamentals of soccer so that each player is prepared both mentally and physically for the sport.
  • To create an environment in which every player will develop both outstanding character and sportsmanship.
  • To create a passion for the sport of soccer in every player.
  • To have FUN!

How do I know which program to register my child in:

DPSL offers the following programs in which a child may be registered depending on their current age. Click here to see current age divisions.

6U Soccer Program - (5 - 6 year olds)

The 6u Soccer program is a co-ed beginner division which focuses on the fundamentals of soccer while introducing them game experiences. Teams practice once during the week for a duration of 45-60 minutes. All games are played In-House against other Deer Park teams in this age division.

Recreational Soccer Program - (7 years old & older by 12/31)

Players begin participating in the Recreational Program when they become 6 years old and are entering the first grade. Exceptions would be made for 5 year olds who will be turning 6 years old in the current playing season in August or September and entering the first grade. Recreational teams typically practice 2 nights a week for a duration of 60-90 minutes.

How are teams formed:

SAY RULE 8 - Legal Team

Player Draw - Players shall be assigned to teams in a manner that provides no intentional advantage to any on team over another. Assignment of new players and those who have moved up from a lower age division shall be by blind draw, or some other method that results in teams being balanced in ability level. This is one of the most basic rules in SAY and must be enforced by each District.

How many players are on a team:

SAY Soccer requires each player to play a minimum of 2 quarters of a game.  This means that the maximum number of players on a team cannot be more than double the maximum number of players allowed on the field at any one time.  So team size varies with age group.  DPSL wants every child to play more than 2 quarters so we generally aim somewhere in the middle in hopes every child will play at least three quarters.

Can I request a specific coach or nights to practice:

Teams are formed in accordance with SAY Nationals random draw process (see above) and we are not able to assign players to a specific coach. However, if there is a coach that you would prefer your child not to be coached by you can request this durning your players registration. However, depending on the amount of teams we field, we cannot guarantee that this request can be accommodated.

It is up to the coach to decide which nights the team will practice. Coaches are able to request practice nights because they are volunteering an incredible amount of time and energy to this effort. It is nearly impossible to accommodate a request by every player for a practice night. We have limited field space and must abide by the SAY National random draw process of players to teams. Therefore, we can not move children from team to team based on scheduling needs.

What equipment will my child need:

Game uniforms (Jersey, Shorts, and Socks) are provided as a part of your registration fee and will be distributed prior to your first game.

All players should have:

  • Soccer cleats
    • Baseball, softball, or football cleats are not permitted.
  • Shin guards
    • must be worn to all practices and games in order to particapate.
  • Soccer ball
    • 6U and 8U players - size 3
    • 10U and 12U players - size 4
    • 14U and above players - size 5
